George Witham
George Witham has been painting rocks for the past twenty years, combining his love of model making and realist painting into a unique art form.  He takes rocks that he finds along the shore, and transforms them with paint into detailed works of art.  Some of his subjects include a crushed Budweiser can, different foods, a 35-millimeter camera, various animals, a cigarette pack and a pocket watch.

Mr. Witham’s rock paintings can be found in many private collections. He has exhibited at: the Transportation Building in Boston, MA.; Groton Center for the Arts in Groton, MA.; Ogunquit and East Boothbay, ME; The Marblehead Artists’ Gallery in Marblehead, MA.; and the Dunstable Artisans annual art show in Groton, MA.  His rocks were included in the May 1997 issue of North Light magazine.  On January 22, 2002, Witham and his rock paintings were featured on the WCVB television show “Chronicle.”

A graduate of Massachusetts College of Art with a BFA in illustration, Mr. Witham retired from Millipore Corporation in Billerica, Mass. where he worked for 32 years as an audio-visual graphic artist.  He is also a fine artist who paints everything from landscapes to portraits.
